No one expects to get cancer but when they do they depend on healthcare organizations like Markham Stouffville Hospital and its Breast Health Centre and Chemotherapy Clinic to provide the care and compassion they need.
Through tremendous support from the community, Markham Stouffville Hospital’s Cancer Centre now includes a Pain & Symptom Management Clinic. An innovative clinic that provides a new level of care for oncology patients, its focus goes well beyond the cancer diagnosis and simple disease management. As more people start to live with cancer as a chronic disease, this clinic focuses on navigating this life-threatening illness and meeting patients’ needs at all stages of their cancer journey. Stemming from the idea of having a pain clinic right in the chemo treatment space working alongside the medical oncologist to address patient concerns, the main objective is to provide better-rounded, expedited cancer care.
At the end of the day, patients are experiencing a better quality of life. A year into the clinic’s operation, patient response has been extremely positive. Ninety-three percent of patients report improved pain management thanks to the care they received at the clinic. And a full eighty-nine percent of patients felt they were receiving all the services they required by attending the pain clinic, including emotional, spiritual, financial and physical support.
None of this would be possible without generous supporters like you. Government can’t fund all equipment and priority needs, which is why your support is so vital. Your contributions will help ensure that Markham Stouffville Hospital delivers on the promise of continued excellence, patient-centered care and innovation. Thank you for joining us and making this possible!
